Nú er seinna helvt av Virkin oktober farin av bakkastokki, og enn eru fleiri áhugaverd tiltøk á skránni, sum leggja dent á trivnað, fjølmentan, samveru og sálarliga heilsu í kommununi.

Á skránni eru millum annað ein søguløta á Fiskastykkinum leygarmorgunin 18. oktober kl. 11, har sjónleikarin Bárður Persson lesur søgur fyri børnum og familjum, og eitt eldratiltak í bygdarhúsinum í Miðvági mikumorgunin 22. oktober kl. 10, har Eldraráðið og Vága kommuna bjóða til morgunmat, felagssang og eitt frískligt innslag frá Páli Weihe.

Fjølmentanarvikan byrjar við samanskotsgildinum Potluck í bygdarhúsinum í Miðvági fríggjakvøldið 24. oktober kl. 19.00, har fólk koma saman at deila mat og samveru tvørtur um mentanir. Seinni sama kvøld, kl. 21.00, verður Pubquiz, har bæði føroyingar og tilflytarar kunnu royna seg við í eini hugnaligari og stuttligari spurnarkapping. The second half of “Virkin oktober” – with Multicultural Week at the centre

The second half of Virkin oktober is now underway, and there are still many interesting events on the programme that highlight wellbeing, multiculturalism, togetherness, and mental health in the municipality.

On the programme are, among other things, a storytime session at Fiskastykkið on Saturday, 18 October at 11:00, where actor Bárður Persson will read stories for children and families, and a senior citizens’ gathering in the community hall in Miðvágur on Wednesday, 22 October at 10:00, where the Senior Council and Vága Municipality invite everyone to breakfast, sing-along, and an engaging talk by Pál Weihe.

Multicultural Week begins with the Potluck dinner in the community hall in Miðvágur on Friday, 24 October at 19:00, where people come together to share food and fellowship across cultures. Later that evening, at 21:00, there will be a Pub Quiz, where both Faroese residents and newcomers can join in a fun and friendly competition. The quiz is informal and inclusive – an evening of community and learning, where we meet across languages and cultures.

On Saturday evening, 25 October at 20:00, Ragnar Finsson will perform at Listastovan. Ragnar’s music explores people, emotions, and connection, offering space for both quiet reflection and strong feelings – an evening where music and multiculturalism meet in a shared spirit.

Many events show that building a multicultural community requires both openness and cooperation. Therefore, the Multicultural Week in Vága Municipality includes activities both within municipal institutions and in public spaces, where residents can meet across linguistic and cultural boundaries. With this, we aim to broaden our perspectives, strengthen social cohesion, and expand the opportunities to live and thrive together in the community.

The final event of the month will be “Between Languages and Cultures” at the library in Skúlin á Giljanesi on Thursday, 30 October at 19:00. This event sheds light on the Faroe Islands as a multicultural society, through informal sofa conversations where newcomers share stories of war, love, careers, conflict, and identity. There will also be music by Lena and Niclas, and Lena – who has spent much of her life abroad – will take part in the conversation as well. Petra Olsen will host the evening. The main languages will be Faroese and English, and interpretation will be available if needed.

With Virkin oktober, Vága Municipality wishes to remind everyone that wellbeing and multiculturalism go hand in hand – and that each of us can do something every day to build a community where everyone has a place and everyone can contribute.
